Biography
Dmitriy Ivanovich Rapotovskiy was born in 1908 in the town of Olevska (Olev’sk) Ukraine. He worked 1939-1940 as an NKVD investigator in the Rokitinskiy District of the Rivne Oblast of Ukraine, on the border with Belarus. When German forces invaded in 1941, he remained in German occupied territory and was soon enlisted as a police officer under the German occupation. The KGB claimed that he participated in arrests and executions of Soviet citizens. In December 1943, he followed German forces as they retreated westward. The last the KGB heard of him was in 1944, when he wrote a letter to his wife using the name Aleksandr Pavlovich Belousov. His name did not appear in the 1979 KGB Alphabetic list, either because he had died (he would have been 71 years old) or because the KGB was no longer pursuing him.[i]
